A Guide for Families & Children

We have introduced Seesaw at the start of the current 2024-25 academic year to enable school and parents to communicate in one place.  Seesaw is a platform that allows the sharing of your child's work within school or at home, communication between staff and family, teachers can set activities to be completed, as well as whole school information being shared, such as newsletters or reminders of upcoming events.

The Seesaw app can be accessed either by desktop or through the app. In school, your child will have access to the class iPads which have the app already loaded for them, as well as the school laptops. Families with more than one child are able to connect to all of their children's accounts (information on how to do this is given on the initial invite).

What you can do as a parent/carer on Seesaw

You should have received a paper/email invite to connect to your child on Seesaw (please contact school if you are having trouble accessing this). As a connected family member, you are able to see what your child's teacher posts on their class journal and what your child posts to their own personal journal. You are able to 'like' and comment on these posts, but please note that all comments have to be approved by the teacher first before being made public.

You will also receive announcements (either made just for your child's class or for the whole school) and be able to message teachers directly - these messages will only be seen by you and the teacher, not your child. Teachers are available for replying to family messages within school hours. Families can also respond to the annoucements made by school, but these will be done privately.

Connected families cannot upload to Seesaw directly, but can send photos and videos through the 'inbox' to their child's teacher (however, teachers cannot then upload these to the child's journal).

What your child can do on Seesaw

Your child’s teacher will have set up a class account with your child’s name and connected them to their 'Class Journal'. In school, your child will be able to scan the class QR code to upload photos, drawings, videos, voice notes, links to content, write notes and upload a variety of other documents too. They can also see what their teacher has been posting on the class journal. Please note: all posts made by children will have to be approved by their class teacher before they're posted to the child's journal. Posts made by children will only be seen by their teacher and their connected families.

Your child will also have access to Seesaw at home through a 'home learning code' which you should have all received (this currently only applies to our Year 5 and 6 children in Owls). By scanning this code/signing in, your child is able to access their class journal at home, where teachers may have set activities and homework to be completed. Children can upload their work in the same way that they do at school.

Children can 'like' posts made in the class journal, but aren't able to comment. They are, however, able to comment on their own work.

The class journal is for your child's teacher to update so that all children and families can see what is taking place in their school day. Your child's journal is only for your child, your child's teacher and connected families to see.

What your child's teacher/school can do on Seesaw

Your child's teacher can upload items to Seesaw just like your child can, and will often post images from their weekly learning and post notes regarding important information needed in class (such as reminders for homework/spellings being set or trip details). They can also assign activities for your child to complete either in school or at home. Teachers can 'like' and comment on all posts, but will have to approve all comments made by children and families. Your child's teacher may also send you messages through the 'inbox' feature - these can only be viewed by you, and not the children.

Please don't hesitate to contact school with any Seesaw queries, we're happy to help where we can. Click here if you wish to read further FAQs on using Seesaw.
